Mothers Polish – Polishing Metal with a Power Tool (How To Video)

The task of keeping the bare, polishable metal components of your vehicle looking great is a task that is made much easier, and goes much quicker, if you use Mothers® PowerBall® or Mothers® PowerCone®.

It’s important to remember, that when using power tools, always wear the proper safety equipment and eye protection to avoid injury.

Let’s be sure that the metal substrate that your working on is in fact really a polishable metal. It’s a very simple test.

Take a little bit of polish on a rag, and rub it on the wheel. If you get a black residue, then you know you can continue. If you don’t, please stop, it could be a coated wheel.

Here I’m using Mothers® PowerCone® and Mothers® PowerMetal® liquid polish.

Set your drill to the clockwise direction, and speed on low, between 300 and 400 rpm.

Begin by adding an ample amount of polish to the cone.

Next, rest the tool on the surface to be polished, and start the drill slowly by feathering the trigger.

When a black buttery residue appears, begin working in all directions from your starting point, until there’s uniform coverage.

As you continue, add small amounts of polish as needed to create another starting point, while maintaining a black buttery residue.

Once an area is sufficiently polished, and before the polish dries, gently remove the black residue with a clean microfiber towel — make sure you turn the towel frequently.

Work in small areas at a time, until the entire wheel is polished.

PowerCone® expands Mothers® PowerBall® line to offer the widest range of polishing possibilities. It makes quick work of any uncoated, polishable metal finish, no matter how intricate the design. Its ingenious conical shape provides an infinite range of sizes — ideal for getting into tight, difficult-to-reach areas. And the PowerCone’s® long tapered side is perfect for polishing broad, curved surfaces. Combined with Mothers® metal polish, the PowerCone® gives you a deep, mirror-like shine in less time.

Mothers® is known worldwide for its premium-grade polishes, waxes and cleaners and offers a broad array of finish care products under its California Gold®, FX, Reflections®, PowerBall®, Marine and Professional lines.
